Our Glorious God

Since coming to know the Lord, I’ve learned that God really does have a sense of humor. I’ve heard it said, “Look at the platypus, and you’ll know.” And while it’s true the platypus is an, um, very interesting looking thing (Love you, Lord! 😘) it is definitely one of the weirder creations we see, or should I say, don’t see. Can anyone tell me where platypus’ come from?? (The answer is: Australia! Well, of course! Giant tailed, hopping marsupials that will kick you into next week, dinner plate sized spiders, Great Whites and don’t forget the man eating massive crocs! It’s all fun and games in sunny Australia! We’re just right behind you here in Florida at #2 in weirdness, Aussies! ☀️)

Sometimes it can be hard for us to think of God, whom we revere with all due respect because HE IS GOD, in a lighthearted way. He is the Creator of all things. John 1:1-4 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.

Jesus is the Word made flesh. John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. Now John of course really did see the Word in the flesh, as a chosen disciple of Jesus Christ. But what about us who live in this time and age? We can identify with what Peter wrote to “the strangers” who were believers in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia (modern day Turkey) in 1 Peter 1:7,8: “that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory...” There are days when I feel the Lord smile upon me. I can feel His warmth and love toward me within and it causes my heart to feel as though it would burst. All I can do is rejoice and smile (and sometimes cry) in the joyous feeling of His presence.

Many, many years ago, before I knew the Lord, I had a bass guitar. I have the gift of a good musical ear and would just play by ear along to songs. We lost the bass in a fire and it didn’t get replaced. Fast forward to around 2022/23 and the gentleman who played bass at our church asked if I’d like to buy his and his amp, as his health and age would no longer allow him to keep playing. I immediately said yes. I plinked around on it a few times, but put it under the bed. I used the amp frequently for other music projects, but the bass just sat there. About five months ago, the Lord prompted me to get the bass out. I played along with a few songs and as I was playing, I felt Him say in my spirit, “I want you to play at church.” I acknowledged I heard Him, but I put the bass back away under the bed where it sat collecting cobwebs for another three months. I felt Him urge me at the end of January, “Play. I want you to play at church.” Knowing the Lord, a second urging is of utmost importance. If you did not respond to the first call, you better respond to the second. He’s calling to you. What He desires is His will, and you best always desire to do His will. The KING has asked something of YOU and no one ought to ever refuse the King. If you love Him, and I really, really do, then I knew I needed to be obedient to His voice. I began to really practice. I educated myself more on some basics and practiced the bass everyday. I let our Pastor know that the Lord had impressed on me to start playing, to which I did insert my own timeline, telling him, I’ll start playing on Sunday nights first.” Well guess what? That wasn’t part of the Lord’s plan. He never said anything about only playing on Sunday nights, but only that I was to play. I had to step out in faith knowing, that if He has called me to do something, He WILL equip me for it. I choose to live my life by Philippians 4:13 which says, “I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me.” My dad (who also plays bass and guitar) bought me a smaller sized bass more suited for my little lady frame and playing has brought me such joy! I had no idea that I had this love of playing bass inside of me, but the Lord did. One of the ladies at church gave David and I a card and a gift for our home. In the card she wrote, Psalm 34:7, “Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” She knew nothing about the goings on within me, but the Lord directed her to write something that would speak volumes. Sometimes we don’t even know what the desires of our heart are! Our God, our Maker, in whom is all my delight, He knows! He is a glorious God and oh the blessings of the glimpses of His glory! Nothing is more intimate; nothing makes you feel more special than to feel His glorious smile shining on you from above, reminding you, “This is my beloved in whom I am well pleased.”

Nothing is impossible with God! Just ask the platypus.
